Dementia Action Week is taking place between 19th and 25th May 2025, and our team will reaffirm our commitment to supporting those living with dementia by demonstrating our support. We also hope to help raise awareness throughout the week as early diagnosis can make a significant impact.
Our team provide specialist, effective and compassionate legal support to vulnerable clients and their families. We are committed to ensuring that vulnerable clients have access to this support by participating in a number of free wills schemes throughout the year including joining Alzheimer’s Will to Remember. We also aim to provide Dementia Training to all our staff, with 60% of staff having already trained, as part of our pledge to become a dementia-friendly organisation.
Dementia affects over 944,000 people in the UK, with 1 in 11 people over 65 affected and 1 in 6 people over 80. Dementia is a group of symptoms and is caused by diseases that damage the brain such as Alzheimer’s. The symptoms worsen over time and include memory loss, confusion, problems with language and understanding, and mood changes.
Emma has worked with vulnerable and incapacitated clients for over 20 years and recalls how distressing it was when her own Grandmother suffered symptoms ‘I was only a child around 13 when symptoms started, but I still remember staying overnight and my parents coming to collect me and the panic when they noticed that the gas hob had been left on. These symptoms did not deteriorate quickly, however, and spanned over 10 years before she was admitted to a care home. Before graduating, I also worked in care home during school and university holidays which exposed me early on to the devastation that dementia causes, although it was also a privilege to spend time with dementia sufferers and see glimpses of their personalities which had been lost to dementia over time’.
Our team provides support and advice to vulnerable and incapacitated individuals, their families and carers on a range of legal issues. Individuals are still able to make decisions and plan for their future even with dementia or other vulnerabilities and we can help with that.
